Diamonds are a girls best friend, but in the case of Kristin Weixelbaumer––designer of accessories line Black Betty––this rings true for all jewelry. Kristin is a self-proclaimed travel buff and mystic that was raised in a household of creatives, so it comes as no surprise that her background has had a direct influence on her label. Black Betty is based in Cape Town, South Africa and is founded on the refreshing principle that precious gems find their owners and that each handcrafted piece is a direct extension of the person that wears them.

Founded in 2012, Black Betty and its nighttime counterpart Black Gold, have already built a cult following within the fashion set. With a range of handcrafted rings, necklaces, bracelets and more fashioned from precious gems and stones sourced from Kristin’s travels, Black Betty has captured the hearts of everyone from dedicated festival goers to fashion week regulars. As a bonafide jewelry buff herself, Kristin states, “I believe jewelry shouldn’t be mere decoration. When a mutual respect exists between the designed piece and it’s owner, one honors the origin of the material, and its inherent providence. The reward for consciously adorning oneself with jewelry is a sense of femininity, intent, and connectedness.”
